The Archdiocese of Panama, through the local organizing committee of the 2019 World Youth Day (WYD), is pleased to announce that the “Cinta Costera 1” will be the official venue for the Main Events of the WYD 2019, which will be held in Panama from January 22 to 27 2019. After consulting with Episcopal Conferences from around world, the consensus is that the “Cinta Costera 1” is the option that best fits the dimensions of previous WYD venues. In addition, the “Cinta Costera 1” has also been evaluated by the Vatican Gendarmerie specialists, who consider that the site is appropriate to guarantee the security of His Holiness and complies with the simplicity and requirements requested by Pope Francis. The main aspects that were considered for the decision in the preliminary analysis were: capacity to accommodate the pilgrims during the main events; appropriate number of access points; emergency management; and resident management. This evaluation has also been carried out under the guidance of a team of specialists and companies that are voluntarily and anonymously offering their services in order to guarantee a better analysis and appropriate selection of the official venue.
