Pope’s condolence for victims of fire in Bangladesh

Cardinal Pietro Parolin sent a telegram on behalf of Pope Francis expressing the Holy Father’s sorrow for the loss of life and injury caused by the fire in the capital, Dhaka.

Pope Francis has expressed his sadness at the loss of the life and injuries caused by a devastating fire that ripped through densely packed buildings in an old quarter of Bangladesh’s capital between Wednesday and Thursday night, killing at least 81 people.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin sent a telegram on behalf of the Holy Father on Thursday saying, “His Holiness Pope Francis was saddened to learn of the loss of life and of the injuries caused by the conflagration in the centre of Dhaka.”   “He extends his solidarity to all affected, and prays especially for the repose of the deceased and for the healing of those injured.”  Cardinal Parolin said, “Pope Francis offers encouragement to the emergency personnel as they assist the victims of this tragedy, and upon all he invokes the divine blessings of consolation and strength.”
