Pope names Giuseppe Boccuzzi as member of Vatican ASIF

Pope Francis appoints Giuseppe Boccuzzi, an Italian-born expert in banking crisis management, as a Member of the Vatican’s Supervisory and Financial Information Authority.

Professor Giuseppe Boccuzzi was named by Pope Francis on Friday as a Member of the Board of the Supervisory and Financial Information Authority (ASIF).

The President of the ASIF, Carmelo Barbagallo, expressed his satisfaction with the papal appointment.

“The appointment of Prof. Boccuzzi confirms the high professionalism and diverse experience of the members of the ASIF Board, which is now fully staffed,” he said.

Brief biography

Prof. Boccuzzi is an adjunct professor at the University of Cagliari, and teaches “Banking Crisis Management” and at the G. Marconi University of Rome as part of the Master’s program in “Business Administration.”

In 2021-2022, he was chairman of Banca Carige, Cassa di Risparmio di Genova e Imperia, headquartered in Genoa.

From 2014 to 2020, he served as general manager of the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund, contributing to the management of banking crises that occurred in Italy.

From 2015 to 2020, he was chairman of the European Regional Committee of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), a global association of deposit insurance schemes based in Basel, where he was vice chairman from 2018 to 2019.

Previously, he worked at the Bank of Italy since 1975, over time assuming senior management positions in banking supervision. He is also the author of numerous publications on banking and financial regulation and in the field of bankruptcy law.
