Pope Leo XIV met with the President of the Republic of Colombia, Mr. Gustavo Petro Urrego, today in the Vatican.
The President subsequently had talks with the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Msgr. Daniel Pacho, Undersecretary for the Multilateral Sector of the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations, at the Secretariat of State.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the conversations at the Secretariat of State were “cordial” and satisfaction was expressed with the good relations between the Holy See and Colombia.
The talks, the Holy See Press Office noted, were characterized by “positive and ongoing cooperation between the Church and the State in promoting peace, reconciliation, and national unity.”
In addition, the statement added, the conversation focused on the socio-political situation in Colombia and the region, with particular attention to the repercussions of conflicts, international organized crime, and climate change.
