Pope asks for prayers for peace as the world continues to be bloodied by wars

Pope Francis appeals to Christians not to forget the many conflicts and clashes that are wreaking death, suffering and damage across the globe, and asks us never to tire of praying, as “prayer is the gentle force that protects and sustains the world.”

By Linda Bordoni

“Even in this summer period, let us never tire of praying for peace,” said Pope Francis, speaking to the faithful during the first Sunday Angelus of the month of July.

In a special way, he continued, “pray for the people of Ukraine who are so tried.”

But he also reminded everyone not to overlook so many other neglected wars “that are unfortunately often forgotten: the many conflicts and clashes that bloody many places on earth.”

“There are so many wars.”

The Pope concluded his appeal by urging all men and women of goodwill to “take an interest in what is happening.”

“Let us help those who suffer; let us pray,” he appealed, “because prayer is the gentle force that protects and sustains the world.”
