Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin has appointed Professor Tiziano Onesti as the new President of the Board of Directors of the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital, with a mandate of 3 years.

According to a Holy See press release issued on Monday, the appointment will take effect from 1 April.

Prof. Onesti succeeds to Mariella Enoc, who resigned from the position she had assumed in 2015 in February.

Prof. Enoc has been simultaneously appointed temporary Consultant for the development projects of the Hospital.

The changeover takes place as the Bambino Gesù, which assists children and young people from all over Italy and from all over the world, undergoes a major expansion and organizational changes, including digitization, aimed at enhancing its professional and managerial skills.

Founded in 1869 by Duchess Arabella Salviati, the Bambino Gesù, known as the “Pope’s hospital,” was donated to Pius XI in 1924 to give it a more stable future. Although located in Rome, it is situated in an extraterritorial area administered by the Holy See.
