Following the visit of US Vice President Kamala Harris to Guatemala and Mexico, the Mexican Bishops Conference is calling for a new era for migrants.

During her visit to Mexico, US Vice President Kamala Harris said we`re entering a new era. The Mexican Bishops Conference agrees stressing: “A new era for migrants can be inaugurated if all of us commit not only to the rhetoric, but to value the enormous wealth that each person carries and thanks to which on many occasions, contributes to the construction of a greater common good, beyond our borders.” It goes on to add: “We hope our countries can work together on security, economics, health and developing life, caring for the environment and the promotion of those in need.”
Harris is promising an additional 310 million dollars in aid, trying to square the plight of the Central American triangle which is struggling with flat line poverty.
She says she strongly believes in interdependence and interconnection. But is simultaneously advising undocumented migrants not to make the dangerous journey to the US Border, often controlled by the tentacles of organized crime and smugglers, warning: “Do not come. Do not come. The United States will continue to secure and enforce our border.” Vice President, Kamala Harris has yet to visit that Border herself. During her visit to Mexico, she signed a Memorandum of Understanding with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Often this type of agreement is symbolic rather than substantive. It`s very clear that the time for words has passed and the moment for real action has already dawned.
