Holy See to hold final webinar ahead of UN Food Summit

The Holy See is gearing up to hold the last of three webinars in the “Food for All” series, which will take place on Monday afternoon.

The “Food for Life, Food Justice, Food for All” webinar series has been held in the runup to the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit taking place in the Autumn.

The series is organized by the Vatican’s Secretariat of State, in conjunction with the Permanent Mission to FAO, IFAD, and WFP, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development, and the Covid-19 Commission.

Food for All

The third of the three webinars will be held on Monday, 31 May, under the title: “Food for All: Food conflicts and the future of food systems”.

It will explore various responses to conflicts centered on food and how the Church can address the problem of food inequality and hunger.

The final webinar is co-hosted by the Pontifical Academies for Sciences and for Social Sciences.

Listen, connect, inspire

A communique from the Holy See Press Office earlier in May said the goal of the series is to “listen, connect, and inspire” Catholics in the moral imperative to eliminate hunger.

“The webinar series aims to: i) listen and nurture dialogues within and beyond the Church; ii) connect best practices across the world that promote sustainable food systems, and; iii) elevate traditionally excluded voices to inspire a call for food justice.”

Transform food production

The series wraps up ahead of the UN Food Systems Pre-Summit taking place in Rome in July.

According to the United Nations, the event will “awaken the world to the fact that we must all work together to transform the way the world produces, consumes, and thinks about food.”

The conclusion drawn from the Vatican “Food for All” webinar series will form the basis for the Holy See’s presentation at the UN summit.
