Holy See and Italy hold bilateral meeting on 2025 Jubilee

The meeting between delegations led by Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni highlighted the need for future discussions on the progress of the work, aimed at promoting an appropriate welcome for those coming to Rome for the Jubilee.

In view of the upcoming Jubilee, the universal Church will celebrate in 2025, a bilateral meeting was held Wednesday afternoon between the Italian State and the Holy See.

“During the meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, the parties expressed their gratitude for the collaboration between Italy and the Holy See and their expectation for an event that will be able to make a spiritual and cultural contribution to the city of Rome and the country,” the Holy See Press Office stated in a press release. “In concluding the meeting, the need was highlighted for further moments of exchange to follow the progress of the work, aimed at fostering an appropriate welcome for those pilgrims and faithful who will reach the city on the occasion of the Jubilee Year.”

The Italian delegation

The Italian delegation, led by Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, included the Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Economy and Finance, the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the Minister of Culture, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Tourism, the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, the President of the Lazio Region, and the Mayor of Rome and Extraordinary Commissioner of Government for the Jubilee. They were accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to the Holy See.

Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin led the delegation representing the Holy See. Also present were Archbishop Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, along with the Undersecretary of the Dicastery; the Substitute of the Secretariat of State; the Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations; the Councillor for General Affairs, together with the Deputy Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State; the Director of Infrastructure and Services; and the Deputy Director of Security and Civil Protection Services.
