Pope receives Estonian President in Vatican

Pope Francis receives Estonian President, Kersti Kaljulaid, in audience in the Vatican.

Pope Francis on Thursday received Kersti Kaljulaid, the President of the Republic of Estonia in a private audience in the Vatican.

After her meeting with the Pope, Kaljulaid also met with the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.

According to a Holy See Press Office statement, during their cordial colloquium the Pope and the President expressed appreciation for the good bilateral relationship that exists between the two states.

They also recalled Pope Francis’ Apostolic Visit to Estonia in 2018, which marked the centenary of the Baltic Nation’s independence. Other topics of mutual interest were also addressed, such as the role of education, social justice and the protection of Creation.

Finally, a series of regional and international issues were discussed including peace, security, a multilateral commitment for the prevention and resolution of conflicts, with particular attention for the situation in Ukraine, as well as the challenges facing the future of Europe.
