DRC: Funeral programme for Cardinal Monsengwo Pasinya.

The mortal remains of Cardinal Monsengwo will arrive in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capital, Kinshasa, on Saturday, 17 July 2021. Burial is foreseen for Wednesday, 21 July 2021.

Diocesan Curia officials in the DRC’s Archdiocese of Kinshasa have published the funeral programme for Cardinal Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, who died at the age of 81 last Sunday in Versailles, France.

The Archbishop of Kinshasa, Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo has requested that masses be celebrated and prayers recited in parishes and religious communities in memory of this “beloved pastor.”

Our Lady of the Congo Cathedral

Cardinal Monsengwo’s remains will arrive in Kinshasa on Saturday, 17 July and be transported to Our Lady of the Congo Cathedral at 10am.  Afterwards, the body will lie in the morgue of St Joseph’s Hospital, where it will remain until Tuesday 20 July. On that Tuesday morning, at 10.30am, an open-air solemn funeral will take place on the Esplanade Du Palais Du Peuple Rdc – the open space outside the DRC’s National Assembly and seat of the Senate.

Burial is scheduled for 21 July at 09.30am in the Cathedral, following a liturgical celebration.

Bells to ring every day at 17.30 in parishes

The Archdiocese of Kinshasa has invited parishes to ring church bells every day at 17.30 as a way of reminding parishioners to pray in suffrage for Cardinal Monsengwo Pasinya. Parishes and the laity have further been advised to adhere strictly to government instituted anti-covid protocols.
