Pope Francis receives Kenya’s President Kenyatta

Pope Francis receives the President of the Republic of Kenya in private audience in the Vatican.

Pope Francis received President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta in private audience on Friday in the Vatican’s Apostolic Library.

A communique by the Holy See Press Office said that during the cordial discussions between the Pope and the President of the Republic of Kenya, the good existing bilateral relations were highlighted.

In particular, the two leaders spoke of the contribution of the Catholic Church to the good of Kenyan society, with special reference to the education and healthcare sectors.

Attention was also focused on the current situation of the country and the contribution it may make to multilateralism at both continental and international levels.

“Themes of common interest were also discussed, including the pandemic crisis in the region, climate change and the issue of refugees,” the press office statement read.

President Kenyatta subsequently met with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, accompanied by Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States.
